Half way

We have reached the half way mark. Taking a rest day stuck in the apartment as some little virus is taking its' toll among us. It is actually cooler (75°!) out today but our main windows don't open unfortunately. I miss living in a house that is open to the outdoors all summer long. Being stuck in air conditioning can be similar to being stuck inside during the MN winter. Luckily we have some lychees left from last night's dinner. They are so good! Sorry, Marie, I don't think customs will let us bring any home for you. Wish we could!

Half the Sky (now One Sky) foundation has done a lot of great things to educate caregivers, support children's programs, and in general, greatly improve the lives for orphaned children living in institutional settings. Half the Sky, along with Holt International, has sponsored the family village program for children with special needs. Neela had been living with a family in this program.

Also, check out this amazing book, Wish You Happy Forever, written by Jenny Bowen, founder of Half the Sky. She set out to provide an opportunity for loving and nurturing care for all orphans in China and she did it! Thank you, Jenny, for your role in providing Neela's loving care.

A Child's Right is an organization that came into the Nanchang Social Welfare Institute in May of 2007 and improved the water quality. 90% of the drinking water in China was not healthy to drink at that time.
