proverb

An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The red thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break. --Chinese proverb

My favorite place so far!!!

Dave already posted on this but I just have to add a few more photos also.  This truly has been my favorite part of the trip.

As mentioned before, it appears the Chinese have never been afraid of immense projects (i.e. The Great Wall or the terra cotta army), however, this is the doozy of them all in my book!

It is an incredible adaptation of the land in order to support life in this isolated place.  It began nearly 700 years ago with the Zhuang and Yao minority people and it is a way of life that continues to this day. The people here are strong.  It is an incredible feat of hard work and engineering, but also a creation of incredible beauty!

It is hard to imagine living up here.  It would be a hard life for sure.  But at the same time, there is a certain appeal to it.  I think if I lived in China, I might want to be a farmer.  The city is just a bit too much.  The countryside is beautiful.

Gorgeous!!! I am always amazed at the art and science of this feat too! Looks beautiful! Is this rice sold or just produced for local self-sustaining farms?
