proverb

An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The red thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break. --Chinese proverb

More interesting things learned through the interpreter

HanRui seems much younger than she is a lot of the time.  Again,  that is due to 9 years in an orphanage.   However, when we get her conversations with Maggie translated, it is obvious there is a LOT going on in that head of hers.  We can't wait until she can really converse with us.   That will be really interesting!

Here are a few things from our morning outing to the Bund and Yu Yuan Garden.

She is afraid to go swimming.  She might die.  She has a swimming suit in her suitcase so is concerned about it.   Maggie reassured her we would keep her safe and she did not need to swim.

She wonders if Neela was also found in front of a shopping mall.   She says they both have bad biological parents.  Maggie tells her maybe they were too poor to get her good care.   She reminds her she has a loving family with brothers and a sister. "And a neighbor!!" pipes up HanRui. She knows a neighbor gave her the red dress.  (Thank you, Sally!)

She said she would lose her Chinese language after a while in America. I told her we had a friend who we would meet with her once a week who would speak with her.   She said that would be good.   We said she was from Guangdong province.   HanRui wanted to know how long she had been in America. 6 years.  OK.

She asked what time it was at lunch.   Maggie told her and she said "My, how time flies!"

Maggie asked her what she sees in her world. That was so good to hear and get an understanding of.   We told her we would take her to a doctor who would help her see better and get her some glasses.  HanRui said, and I am not kidding, "The doctor should be a professional!".  Only the best for her!

And the best of all,  while sharing a mango smoothie, she was acting kind of shy talking to Maggie.  Maggie said HanRui told her she was too shy to tell me she loved me.  Wo ai ni, HanRui.  I love you, too.
