After a quiet afternoon in the hotel room, we headed out to the pool once the sun was down a bit lower. HanRui said that she did not like swimming and did not want to swim, only splash. She did not want to put a swimming suit on. That is fine, we told her.
Dave and Neela and I went swimming and she sat by the edge so she could splash. The pool was wonderful. I usually get cold but we swam for nearly 2 hours and it felt great. It was a great place for HanRui to see lots of families playing with their kids in the water and see that as normal. She laughed at the kid doing the back float - he was sleeping in the water she said.
Dave and I figured by the end of the week she'd be in the water. After about an hour. She could not resist any longer. She had to try what everyone else was doing. She slowly started stretching her legs down father into the pool. Then she tried going in on the ladder and while holding the rails, felt her legs float. Then she was hooked.
I would hold her hands or her body and she kept saying "I like swimming!!" She was laughing a lot and getting water in her mouth. We thought this might lead to another of her burp-a-thons. (Burp-a-thons follow every morning glass of juice or drink of pop.....)
She has asked that we swim again on Sunday. She is all about the schedule and wanting to know what time and where. We are SO far off her "time table" that they gave us detailing the orphanage day, but she is pretty adaptable. Well, tomorrow is Sunday. We are headed out to Shamien Island, where we stayed last year, and then the Chinese medicine market which is fun to see. After that, we'll be back in the pool!
